Summative Assessment

For Filipinos, it has always been a part of our community to be late and start things late. It seems to be practiced or embraced by many Filipinos, so much so that we have been given a name for it, Filipino Time. However, there are legitimate explanations in today’s society as to why Filipinos still have the Filipino Time tradition. The incredible traffic Filipinos have to go through in Metro Manila is one of these. Based on a global survey by Waze, Metro Manila is now considered to have the “worst traffic on Earth.” As such, when people want to meet in Manila at a certain time, the unforeseeable traffic may either make them too early or too late for their meeting.

The meme follows the construction of identity that indicates that if not everybody, Filipinos are generally like this. The meme created as of late individuals an identity for all Filipinos and it adds to their performance as individuals that this is how Filipinos perform. When anyone calls to meet a Filipino, someone will expect the Filipino to follow the Filipino time and be late even though that Filipino honors the time and will arrive early at the meeting’s agreed time. The meme identified Filipinos and judged them as these kinds of persons or in other words, this is the impression the meme created for other people to see Filipinos.
